Julius Randle took over late in the 3rd quarter and throughout the 4th quarter, teaming with sidekick RJ Barrett to pull NY out of a 6-point deficit and shake off Detroit, 108-100 on a Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.
NY is now 3-0 in the 4-game pre-season.
1. Randle & Barrett Show at End of 3rd
The Knicks were down 75-69 in the 3rd quarter and playing lackluster ball. To that point RJ Barrett was having an off game with 5 points on 1-7 shooting and we commented on Twitter that he needed to drive to the basket to get in gear.

And then:
- Randle hit a 3 with 3 minutes to pull NY within 3 at 75-72, and
- Randle hit another 3 to make it 77-75.

- Then RJ Barrett took it to the basket off a Randle assist to tie it 77-77 and get fouled for an ‘and 1″ and a NY 78-77 lead.

- Barrett scored on another drive to make it 80-77, and
- Randle finished the quarter with a drive to make it 82-77 NY after 3.
2. Randle & Taj Steps Up to Stop Pistons in 4th
The Knicks nursed the 5-point lead throughout the 4th but when Detroit pulled to within 92-90 after a Luka Garza layup with 6 minutes left,
- Taj Gibson answered with a bucket and
- there was Randle again with a 3 to put NY up 97-90.
- Gibson hit another jumper to put NY up 99-90 off great NY ball movement and
- Randle hit another jumper to make it 101-90.

NY built the lead to 108-92 with under a minute left. Detroit scored the last 8 points of the game to make the score look close at 108-100.

- RJ Barrett finished with 12 points on 3-11 shooting, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and a +12.
- Taj Gibson finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
