Pelicans Clobber Knicks. MSG BOOS. New Orleans 102 NY 91

The Knicks were down by 4 at the half, when the New Orleans Pelicans CLOBBERED them in the 3rd quarter, 35-15, as the BOOS RAINED down on the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

The Knicks chipped off points in the final minutes to make the final score decent, but this was a blowout stinker on a Thursday night at the Garden.

1. MSG Fans Help Other Team

New Orleans was hitting their 3’s in the 3rd, and local Brooklyn product Jose Alvarado — a 6’0 point guard out of Georgia Tech — was having the game of his life off the bench — scoring and distributing.

The Knicks were missing shots and started to press, and the blowout began. Knick fans at MSG started to rain boos and that helped the Pelicans.

“It was really like 6 on 5 out there because they were frustrated and missing shots,” said New Orleans’ shooting guard Josh Hart afterwards. “The crowd was frustrated so they were booing them and giving us fuel. Usually on the road, the only guys you have are those in our locker room. I’m not saying the fans were on our side, but they weren’t on their side either.”

2. Randle Horrid

Julius Randle was a main culprit of missed shots and pressing play. He shot 1-9 (0-2 from 3) for 4 points in 29 minutes. He had 7 rebounds and 6 assists.

3. Robinson and Barrett Lead Knicks

Mitchell Robinson and RJ Barrett tied for the team lead with 17 points apiece.

Robinson scored his 17 points on 6-7 shooting.

RJ Barrett played aggressively again (17 points on 6-13 shooting) but was 1-5 from 3.

4. Knick Bench Did OK

The Knick bench chipped away at the big lead in the last few minutes and finished with good stats: Immanuel Quickley 14 points (on 4-13 shooting, 2-9 from 3) and a +15; Alec Burks 13 points and a +9, and Quintin Grimes 13 points (on 5-9 shooting; 3-6 from 3) and a +10.
