Game Log: Feb 1, 2019: Boston 113 NY 99

Lose Lose Lose. The current mantra. With the Kristaps Porzingis deal done, the Knicks have 3 good players coming who are used to winning — and they will have to get used to the new vision.

Last night, with “them” (Dennis Smith Jr, DeAndre Jordan, and Wesley Matthews) in town but not having passed their physicals — the Knicks were undermanned so Kadeem Allen — who was promoted from the G League last week — started and got 35 minutes. After all the talk this season of who was the point guard — Frank Ntilikina, Emmanuel Mudiay, or Trey Burke — it has come to this.

Damyean Dotson showed he is not shy — taking over starting shooting guard while Allonzo Trier still comes off the bench. Dotson scored 22 pts on 9-16 and 4-8 on 3’s.

Fans at MSG were chanting “We want Kyrie” for Kyrie Irving who many expect the Knicks to sign this offseason as a free agent. He had 23 pts on 9-20, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. But despite the numbers — didn’t look as super quick as he did years ago.

One interesting matchup was Kevin Knox against Jayson Tatum:

Mitchell Robinson was a joy to watch as usual — pulling down numerous offensive rebounds in the fourth quarter — and either putting it back, getting fouled, or swinging it out for another possession. He even hit two consecutive free throws — which is Huge — he must become a good free throw shooter to become a reliable big in closing minutes.ย Allonzo Trier did some spectacular things — some terrific penetrations to the basket and a defensive block from behind on a drive.

National Broadcast on ESPN

This game was on ESPN and Mitchell’s boards and blocks prompted the ESPN female announcer at one point to start waxing poetic about him for several minutes. “He’s not just quick on his first jump; he’s quick on Multiple jumps.”

The male ESPN announcer kept saying “dime” all night. And then at one point, “the Knicks are gonna hit the pause button” when the Knicks called timeout.

Kyrie Future Knick

During the day Kyrie Irving was quoted he is no longer a given to sign with Boston this off season , and during the game it broke on twitter that Anthony Davis‘s father said he didn’t want his son to play for Boston for what they did to Isaiah Thomas. So it was a bad night for Boston. After the game, Kyrie Irving apparently took off his jersey and gave it to his dad, bypassing some little kid who Kyrie said already had a jersey.

For Boston, Gordon Hayward had 14 points, Al Horford had 14 points, and Marcus Morris had 18 pts. It was all neither here nor there to Knicks fans — Boston had 7-pt lead at the end of 3, built it to 20 in the 4th, Knicks pulled to 10 with about 3 and a half minutes left, but then Boston iced it. Madison Square Garden was quiet. Disinterested quiet.

For the Knicks Enes Kanter had 6 pts and 7 rebounds in 13 minutes — coach Fizdale has taken him off the bench but now it’s up to Kanter to get numbers in limited minutes so as not to kill his season avgs of 14 pts and 10.6 rebounds. After the game, and article came out in the NY Post that has Kanter complaining that now they’ll be playing 30-yr-old DeAndre Jordan and not playing him, age 26, even though they’re supposed to be going with youth. So that should go over well with coach.

Mario Hezonja — the only Euro this management team seems to like — had 10 pts as first man off bench.
